Critical vulnerability in Photoshop

Marsu has reported a vulnerability in Adobe Photoshop, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user’s system. SecurityFocus has provided a code example on their website.

The vulnerability is caused due to an error within the handling of Bitmap files (e.g. .BMP, .DIB, .RLE) and can be exploited to cause a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted Bitmap file.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerability is reported in Adobe Photoshop CS2 and CS3. Other versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Do not open untrusted Bitmap files.

Reina has the safest hands

I’ve been a Liverpool fan ever since I saw my first English Premiership match around 30 years ago. I do not talk to much about it, but I do enjoy watching them play. After this weeks game LFC qualified for next years Champions League and also took a step closer towards claiming 3rd place in the premiership this year.

Besides the fact that the coach is Spanish they also have several other Spanish blokes on the squad. Among them a fantastic goalkeeper, Pepe Reina.

What record does Pepe Reina now hold that is better than the likes of Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar? We can reveal that the Spanish stopper has the best post-war record of clean sheets in his first 100 starts.

Reina, who played his 100th game for Liverpool against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, has kept 55 clean sheets. Clemence kept 51 clean sheets in his first 100 starts for Liverpool, Grobbelaar has 50 while Istanbul hero Jerzy Dudek had 45 shut outs in his first 100 starts.

A bit later today Liverpool will face Chelsea in the semifinals in this years European Championship, so keep your fingers crossed.

P.S. I know this is a bit “off-topic” compared to my usual ramblings, but hey it’s a blog isn’t it ;)

Edit: Allow a few seconds for the Flash animation to load.

Warning: Don’t bother if you have photosensitive epilepsy!

Geek Snapshots

This is why some people are called geeks. Some might really enjoy the title while others should feel lucky. I get a very unpleasant image in the back of my head when I try to imagine how the guy/girl behind some of these set-ups look in real-life. Even though I consider myself kinda nerdy I still manage to clean up after myself and keep some kind of system (even according to my wife).
