Yesterday WordPress announced the immediate release of version 2.2.1 which besides fixing a few bugs also addresses several security issues which was discovered during the development process.
Unfortunately, 2.2.1 is not just a bug fix release. Some security issues came to light during 2.2.1 development, making 2.2.1 a required upgrade. 2.2.1 addresses the following vulnerabilities:
So if you haven’t done it already, now would be a good time to upgrade. Visit the download section to grab the latest code.
Following the Detailed Upgrade Instructions I spent less than 30 minutes getting everything up and running. It might take a little longer if you’ve made changes to the core files, but all in all it shouldn’t take that long and it’s definitely worth it in the long run.
