Plugin has now been live for more than a decade and still works running on the latest WordPress and PHP versions. I believe it was conceived back in the WP 2.x and PHP 3.x days!!

I’ve currently been working on an update for one of the companies websites. The whole site runs on WordPress, my “new” favourite CMS. However, before going live the site is running on a different location than when ready. I noticed that the import/export feature doesn’t change the URI’s inside the posts and pages. Concequently I needed something to make the “move” as quick and automatic as possible.

Inspired by Alex King’s “Shortcut Macros” plugin I decided to make something similar that would convert any root URI references with a macro, ##root to be specific. To illustrate lets say your domain is http://www.example.com. So whenever you write or update a page/post the following will happen ;

http://www.example.com/link/to/page_or_post -> ##root/link/to/page_or_post

When viewing the page the plugin will automatically reconvert #root to your blogs URI as defined by get_option(‘home’). This way your internal links will always be uptodate wherever you move your blog.

Grab the code and instructions from the download page.

Google announced Wednesday 28th May that they are unveiling the Google Earth API and browser plug-in. As the latest member of Google’s Maps API family, the Google Earth API allows web developers to quickly and easily turn their web pages into 3D map applications.

Developers can now use the Earth as their canvas and apply their creative vision to a geographically rich, 3D environment, leveraging the same technologies Google use in the desktop Google Earth client. For consumers this means that they will probably soon see Google Earth in many more places around the web — perhaps even their favorite web site.

The Google Earth Browser Plugin is now live at code.google.com/apis/earth. Download it, learn from the online Developer Guide and samples, build something cool, and share it with the world!

Note! The plugins is currently only available for FF2, IE6 and IE7 running Windows.
