Firefox now tries to adjust the zoom level according to your Windows settings, as well as better supporting high DPI displays. It’s not going to be to everyone’s liking.

I just upgraded to Firefox 22 on this computer and had to do the following in order to view webpages “correctly”:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste pix and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click layout.css.devPixelsPerPx and change its value to 1.0Â for original sized fonts (like they used to be in FF 21 –), or a larger ratio for larger fonts. For example, 1.25 corresponds to 125% font size in Windows display settings.

More info in this thread: How do I set the default font size to a lower value?

Due to a critical security issue Mozilla strongly urge all Firefox users to upgrade to version 3.5.1 immediately. As always you can get your language/OS copy here.

Another reason to upgrade now is a new fix that makes start-up time on windows a bit quicker and overall performance even better.

The unofficial Google Gears add-on still works so you don’t have to worry about that either

Swift updates and speed seems to keep me loyal to FF. If you feel like commenting and impress me that any of the other browsers are better please have a go in the comments for this post…

Firefox 3.5 beta 4 is out and among the news is support for various open-source video formats. The following video shows just a few examples of what to expect.

Basically the video acts like a normal web page controlled by JavaScripts and according to TechCrunch this might be the beginning of the end for Flash movies.

You can always get the latest beta here if you want to give it a go. Developers will find answers and info here.

Now I’m just waiting for the final release – what’s your thoughts about the new “no-plugin needed” thingy? Will it open a new world of security holes or will it be for the better?

Security updates in FF 2.0.0.13 introduced stability problems in the JavaScript engine. This is known to have caused sporadic crashes during JavaScript garbage collection. Some of these crashes showed evidence of memory corruption under certain circumstances and you can only presume that with enough effort at least some of these could be exploited to run arbitrary code.

The latest version, Firefox 2.0.0.14 (released yesterday), eliminates the instability problems. In case your auto-update hasn’t done so all ready I strongly suggest you update Firefox immediately.
