Upgrading to Wordpress 2.2

Earlier today (GMT) Matt announced that Wordpress 2.2 is finally available for download. Thus, I’ll be spending the next few hours upgrading and testing which most likely will make this site unavailable from time to time. When done I’ll give a brief summary of the experience as I did when upgrading to version 2.1 a few months ago.

Stay tuned :)

Update (1.5 hours later)

Except for some FTP trouble (which has nothing to do with WordPress) everything went exceptionally well. All my plugins appear to be working just fine. The only modification I needed to do was to include the “old” quicktags.js from WP 2.1 in order to get my comment quicktag add-on working.

The list of working plugins are the same as before and is listed nicely in my post about my Blogvaria Plugins.

eShare - download & share centre

A brand new product from Procare named eShare allows easy P2P while your computer is off(line).

eShare eShare lets you do 24/7 non-stop sharing while freeing up your computer for other purposes. You can utilize the latest P2P technology “Bit-Torrent” to download and share your favourite multimedia files. eShare’s intelligent concept lets you backup any files into your HDD, and to share them with family and friends – all without using your computer constantly. So start sharing, just plug in eShare…

Currently only compatible with a PC running on Windows, but this will probably change if this little box finds it way into the market. To access your friends files create an account with the community service, www.eSharelive.com, which also enables access to those of us without a static IP through a dynamic DNS solution.

Fun at work?

Carsten Höller has come up with an amazing slider for use anywhere. This might be the little extra that makes everyday at work a thrill.

The office slide To date Höller has installed six smaller slides in other galleries and museums, but the cavernous space of the Turbine Hall offers a unique setting in which to extend his vision. Yet, as the title implies, he sees it as a prototype for an even larger enterprise, in which slides could be introduced across London, or indeed, in any city. How might a daily dose of sliding affect the way we perceive the world? Can slides become part of our experiential and architectural life?

Have a look for yourself and tell me what you think (about that)?

World Wide Web of Widgets

Came across this nice post about widgets today, and in case you haven’t read it already or still wonder what this “new thing” are please take a look.

The web has seen an explosion in the use of widgets over the past year or so. So let’s explore what a widget is and its uses. Note that in this post, we’re discussing Web-based widgets only, rather than desktop widgets such as those provided by Yahoo Widgets or Microsoft’s Vista widgets.
