I’ve just updated to the latest Opera 10 Beta. I must say I’m very impressed. Loads quick, both start-up and page loading times. Looks nice and adding widgets (like the FF plugins) is straightforward and quick.

Just have in mind that, like Opera states:

This is a beta version of Opera. Please use it only on properly backed-up computers. It is a stability release and records additions, fixes, and improvements made to Opera 10.0 beta 2. For your reference, please see the previous Opera 10.0 beta 2 for Windows changelog which was released on July 16, 2009.

I haven’t had any issues but others definitely had (thus the stability update). To try it on yourself simply visit their “next” download section.

As some of you may have noticed my blog has been unavailable quite a lot lately. The reason seems to be that there’s a memory leak  issue with Apache (on our Debian ran server). Concequently, the server stops responding after a certain time as too many processes and memory are in use.  Several measures have already been taken but the scary part is that the logs doesn’t clearly specify which process(es) does the ugly bits.

It may be that 1GB memory on the server (+ 2GB switch) just isn’t enough any more. Anyway, it appears that more people have been experiencing issues with Apache and multiple processes that in the end brings the server down.

If you’ve had similar experiences on your server I would be very grateful for any tips or ideas to what to do. Please either leave a comment or send an email through our contact form if you so prefer.

Now, on to update to WordPress 2.8.4 – which needs to be done manually because of security settings on the aforementioned server…

Due to a critical security issue Mozilla strongly urge all Firefox users to upgrade to version 3.5.1 immediately. As always you can get your language/OS copy here.

Another reason to upgrade now is a new fix that makes start-up time on windows a bit quicker and overall performance even better.

The unofficial Google Gears add-on still works so you don’t have to worry about that either

It’s common knowledge that a lot of (most) web/graphic designers uses a Mac. Consequently, they tend to use Mac fonts in their style sheets as their first options (at least quite often). Unfortunately fonts like Lucida Grande, Lucida sans etc. are NOT included in the normal Windows package.

Well know you can get it too! After a bit of googeling I finally found the best emulations of all the OS X system fonts. If you just want to get the emulated Mac Lucida fonts go here.
