Testing the YouTube plugin…

By installing Robert Buzink’s YouTube Brackets you can easily embed YouTube videos directly in your WordPress blog, even if you’re hosting it yourself.

All you need to remember after activating this little piece of code (plugin) are to include while posting a post/page.

The Skype alternative

Using the Internet to make calls is becoming more and more popular, mainly because it’s cheap(er). You can use a VoIP (Voice over IP) phone or you can call via your PC simply by adding a headset with a microphone. The most popular companies offering this service are probably Skype and Windows Live Messenger, but are they best in the market?

There’s a lot of good reasons to choose Skype or MSN (or both) as they’ve proven reliable and continue to develop the quality and features within the product. This again makes it even harder for competitors to gain market shares. BUT just 6 months ago I stumbled across another company offering a similar service to Skype, namely VoipStunt.

Upgrading to Apache 2.2

This article was written after a successful upgrade of my local server running on Win XP SP2. I started out with Apache 2.0.59, PHP 5.1.5 and MySQL 5.0.24, and are now running PHP 5.2.0 and MySQL 5.1.4 on Apache 2.2.3.

If you are starting a fresh install please see the following articles, as the installation procedure hasn’t changed much from previous versions:

Some thoughts before upgrading

As some of you already know PHP 5 versions prior to 5.2.0 is not automatically supported by Apache 2.2.x, therefore I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade PHP before starting the server upgrade. It also seamed like a good idea to completely remove Apache 2.0.x before continuing since version 2.2.x is such a massive upgrade. This article also assumes you have installed Apache, MySQL and PHP to the following locations: C:\Apache2, C:\mysql and C:\php5

Playing with Photoshop

Just feel like tuning up your dull-looking images? Well there’s a lot of ways to go about doing so. To begin with you should have a good image editor. Personally I recommend taking a look at the various products found at Adobe’s website.

Earlier today I downloaded an extra filter to my beloved image editor, Photoshop (CS2), made by Pixelpaper. It didn’t take me long to create a very cool looking image. How to do what I just did doesn’t need more than a few minutes of your time and some playing around with your mouse. The only thing worth mentioning is the structure effect which is found when selecting the “surface tab” and clicking “Bumpmap” rather than the more obvious “Surface” button…

WCMS Frontend Demo

In just a few days I’ll upload the latest version of my Content Management System (WCMS) so you can click around and get a feeling of what it’s all about. Some screen shots from the administration panel will follow soon after.

WCMS

Unlike a lot of the big companies I’ll actually be displaying a stable release meant for production environments, rather than the typical “Beta version this build that”.

Please note! The WCMS’ newsletter module will replace all other newsletters running on evaria.com and its sub-domains, simply to get a more up-to-date, united and SPAM free module. I also believe the newsletter thing is soon a thing in the past, as Feeds do this job much more efficiently, not to say faster. Therefore I might also consider removing this module, but for now I’ll just gather it all in one place.

WCMS frontend (what the normal visitor will see) is opened in a new window when you click this sentence.

Please feel free to add comments about bugs (if you find any), security issues (shouldn’t be any – knock on wood), requests or any other question you might have.
