SharePoint 2010 & Office 2010 Launch

Today, Microsoft officially announced that May 12th, 2010, is the launch date for SharePoint 2010 & Office 2010. In addition, they announced the intent to RTM (Release to Manufacturing) this April 2010.

With Microsoft Office 2010, you can review and do minor editing on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote 2010 documents, virtually anywhere, by using Office Web Apps from more locations on more devices.

Keep your people productive on the go. Office 2010 lets you access and edit documents stored on a server while you’re offline with SharePoint Workspace 2010, and then automatically syncs these changes when you’re back online. So you stay productive while on the go.

Support your employees, regardless of location or device. Office 2010 saves you time and money by helping you deploy and manage Office on the PC, the smartphone, and the Web, all from within familiar Microsoft System Center tools.

Implementing ACAP

ACAP (Automated Content Access Protocol) is the new open standard that enables website owners to express terms under which crawlers (also known as robots or spiders) and others are allowed access to and use of their website contents.

ACAP has been devised by publishers in collaboration with search engine operators and other web content aggregators to revolutionise the creation, dissemination, use, and protection of copyright-protected content on the worldwide web.

ACAP is set to become a universal permissions protocol on the Internet, a totally open, non-proprietary standard. Protect your content.

To find out how to enable ACAP on your website visit: the-acap.org

Implementing ACAP should take no more than 30 minutes. It is an extremely simple process for any IT professional and, until it is implemented by the major search engines, it will have no actual impact on the functionality of your site.

Implementation today is largely symbolic and part of the campaign to encourage search engines and other aggregators to adopt ACAP and respect the online copyright of content providers.

By the way – you’re looking at an ACAP enabled site right NOW – Cool eh ;)

Opera 10.10 and Opera Unite

I’m sure most of you already heard about the massive interest for the first official Opera 10 release, which to some extent may be triggered by the new Turbo technology. Now, it seems that there’s even more to be excited about. The forthcoming “Beta” introduces a new technology called Opera Unite, radically extending what you are able to do online.

Opera Unite harnesses the power of today’s fast connections and hardware, allowing all of us to help define the future landscape of the Web, one computer at a time. Read about how Opera Unite is going to change the way we interact on the Web on labs.opera.com.

Having been a loyal Firefox user for many years I see now that both Google Chrome and Opera makes fantastic alternatives. However, I keep asking myself, WHY does people still use IE when the competition is so clearly miles ahead??? Please feel free to share your take on this as is doesn’t make sense to me at all.

On a side note I bet all the IT staff in big corporations/companies use something other than IE, they’re simply not taking the step forward as it could require working overtime due to users not being able to adapt to any SW changes. And there’s also the obvious connection between MS Office and any of their other products – but I’m sure the competition could handle it all.
