World Wide Web 15th anniversary

Today the World Wide Web’s (WWW) celebrates its 15th anniversary. 30th April 1993 the web’s code was put into the public domain by Cern, the lab where the web was developed. From only a few websites in the early days the web has seen a remarkable growth. Given its size It’s hard to imagine that it has only been around for such a short time.

According to the web’s inventor, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the world wide web is “still in its infancy”. More insight thoughts are available in an interview with Berners-Lie by BBC News posted earlier today (well worth a read).

Steve Ballmer caught with a Mac

Steve Ballmer was caught on camera during his presentation “Business Leadership and Digital Innovation For Future Graduated” a few days ago. As you can clearly see from the photo the Microsoft CEO is using a Macbook:

The irony is further strengthen by the fact that this was taken with an iPhone :) And in case you thought this was “photoshopped” here’s another image proof to back it up.

One would think a man in his position would use his own company’s products, but then again he might be running dual boot and actually be using MS office on Vista at the given moment.

Considering the lame reception of Vista and the latest MS products I tend to think “Ha - I knew it!!”. Anyway, it’s a great shot, and the logo on the desk matches the colours of the Macbook perfectly :)

Annoying SPAM Blog - Site Kreation

Yesterday I noticed a new blog that is featuring several of my posts as they were written by them. This is not new to the blog scene, but what annoys me is that after informing them through a comment (they/he/she don’t have a contact page) they only removed one of my posts.

On the other hand I might consider it a compliment, as they are obviously grabbing content that would give them better ranking. This somewhat common SEO trick will fortunately only work for a while until enough people report the site as SPAM, and the site vanishes of the surface of the search engines.

Compliment or not I’m not going to support this parasite behaviour, and therefore I encourage everyone to block out and leave sitekreation dot com flying in the dark. I’m not even going to provide a link to the site as I don’t think it deserves it.

If your content was stolen by this or any other site please feel free to share what you did and what you felt. Good to get it out of your system they say…

Another Dreamweaver bug

November last year I wrote a post about a bug in Dreamweaver CS3 that makes it crash after Daylight Saving Time Ends. Yesterday it all started again, but this time the application didn’t crash but was constantly opening an alert box informing me that an extension (MySQL) wasn’t working properly.

Luckily I found the fix on adobe.com. So in case you are having the same symptoms take a look at this article about re-creating your user configuration folder.

Quick summary

XP users can follow these simple steps first to try and correct the issue:

  1. Quit Dreamweaver.
  2. Go to Start > My Computer.
  3. Rename Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver 9\Configuration to Configuration Old.
  4. Start Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver creates a new Configuration folder.

If this doesn’t solve your problems read the full article for more options.

WordPress 2.5.1 update

Just finished updating again. Took me about 10 minutes, nothing to it really. All plugins seams to work and there really isn’t many surprises when you log back in to the admin.

However, one thing that annoys me a little is the empty space the blog title leaves in the admin header and also the font size of the “sub-menu”. Consequently I’ve made a few minor changes to the admin to address this “issue”.

In short I want to implement the following changes (click to enlarge):
