The teachers from hell

Here are clips of some truly remarkable classroom breakdowns ranging from furious rants to physical violence. I hope my kids never has to experience a teacher of this kind!

High school is a bad idea. You’ve got a bunch of moody idiots packed into tiny class-rooms with freaked-out teachers who resent the kids for being so young and full of promise. Something’s gonna go wrong and according to YouTube, that something is the teacher going nuts.

Extreme growth in atmospheric CO2

A team of scientists has found that atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) growth has increased 35 percent faster than expected since 2000. The findings are published this week in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

The study found that inefficiency in the use of fossil fuels increased levels of CO2 by 17 percent, while the other 18 percent came from the decline in the efficiency of natural land and ocean sinks which soak up CO2 from the atmosphere.

The research by the Global Carbon Project, the University of East Anglia (UEA) and the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) shows that improvements in the carbon intensity of the global economy have stalled since 2000 after improving for 30 years, leading to the unexpected growth of atmospheric CO2.

Stickman - 2D Animation Software

For Children & Advanced Users - Age: 6++

Stickman is a 2D animation program that use new technology to make animating easier and more effective. The technology behind Stickman is developed by Cutout Pro, leaded by Sven Nilsen. The principle of Stickman is to build what you want to animate before animating it. All figures, background or things are using the same tools when animating. You can also share your own figures with friends or students in your class.

Cutout Pro has researched and is still researching digital 2D animation to solve problems common in most animation programs. Stickman animations are based on key frames. A key frame controls the pose of a body in a still picture. With two key frames we can calculate the pose between those still pictures. To move a figure from A to B, it takes only two key frames. To move a figure from A to B and then to C, it takes three key frames.

The calculation is handled a special way that makes the movement natural. A figure can contain skeleton simulation which uses complex algorithms to make moving smooth or hard when necessary. It’s easy to make a figure pick up a thing, like a sword, and use it. It’s easy to put a figure inside another, like holding an ice cream or showing a figure through a television. It’s easy to change the draw order in animation, like walking around a house or a car. A figure can also move it self by time, like a fire flame.

Cutout Pro is open for feedback about every aspect of the software, from installation to figure improvements.

Never use Word as your Web editor

I’ve written a few news stories about Roger Marris, an Englishman diagnosed with an aggressive form of incurable NHL that has no known cause - Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (one of many illnesses grouped under the general term – cancer; Lymphoma is known as lymphatic cancer).

Digression: To improve the chances of people in the future finding themselves in a similar position, Rog wanted to try to raise a minimum of £10,000 while he felt able to do so. Mission is now accomplished! Rog has now completed this challenge and has surpassed his original target by raising more than £25,000 for charity. Congratulations!!

Anyway… He’s website, which I believe someone has created for him, are created using MS Word as the HTML editor. This has unfortunately resulted in a website being almost inaccessible for anyone using a browser not named IE.

Take a look at www.aroundwithrog.co.uk using IE and then try it in Opera, Firefox or anything else…

Someone should really redo his pages! A good cause deserves better.
