Led Zeppelin confirm reunion gig

One of my all-time favourite bands Led Zeppelin officially announced a reunion gig taking place at the O2 arena in London on 26 November.

From the movie première “The Song Remains The Same” in London 4 november 1976

From the left: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul and John Bonham (deceased)

Singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones will play at the show to remember the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. Ertegun, who signed Led Zeppelin in 1968, died last year.

The place of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, who died in 1980, will be taken by his son Jason.

Tickets will cost £125 and be allocated by ballot. Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and Paolo Nutini will also perform.

Sun to become Win Server OEM

In my post yesterday about the forthcoming Ubuntu Server OS that is optimized for VMware I was also wondering what the others would do. The answer came blistering fast and was announced on Sun.com yesterday.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. REDMOND, Wa September 12, 2007 Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA) today announced that Sun has signed on as a Windows Server OEM. Additionally, Sun and Microsoft will collaborate to further enable deployment of Windows Server on Sun x64 systems.

In the ongoing battle (against WMware) for virtualization market shares, and most likely also to try to catch up technologically, Sun and Microsoft are now working side-by-side on cross-platform virtualization:

Solaris and Windows Virtualization - Sun and Microsoft will work together to ensure that Solaris runs well as a guest on Microsoft virtualization technologies and that Windows Server runs well as a guest on Sun’s virtualization technologies. Sun and Microsoft will work together on a support process for customers who are using the virtualization solutions. This joint commitment to customers ensures that Windows and Solaris will provide a solid virtualization experience.

Ubuntu OS optimized for VMware

In this new age of virtualization it only seemed fit to announce that a slimmed down Ubuntu Server OS that is optimized for VMware is soon to be released. The news was published yesterday on “The Console”, VMware’s Executive Blog.

I’m very excited to note that Ubuntu will soon ship Ubuntu JeOS, a slimmed down Ubuntu Server OS that is optimized for VMware virtual appliances. Besides their JeOS being small and optimized for VMware, Ubuntu’s kinder and gentler distribution terms will be very appealing to ISVs who want to distribute Virtual Appliances. I applaud the folks at Canonical for taking the lead on providing an OS optimized for virtual appliances.

Let’s see what Microsoft and the others does to fight back to regain their market shares.

Les Misérables in Füssen

From the 3rd to the 19th last month Les Misérables was the main attraction at the “Festspielahus” in “Füssen” (Germany). The important thing however (for me) is that a friend of mine, Runar, was one of the performers/actors/singers.

Hence it’s only natural that I put up a small gallery as a tribute for his kindness, talent and friendship.

View the Runar & Les Misérables tribute gallery

In case you should wonder he’s the guy in the back on the right side (1st picture). It really was a great performance given that he’s Norwegian and sang in German (it’s really not that easy…).

Congrats!

Vitrite - useless but fun

Vitrite - Useless window transparency since 2002 Vitrite is a small application written in C that allows you to set window transparency on Windows 2000 and newer. You can also use it to force one window to stay on top which actually might be useful occasionally.
