Safari available on Windows

Yesterday at the World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Steve Jobs announced that Safari 3 will be made available for Windows XP and Vista.

With a market share of only 5% (according to Apple) he’s been falling behind on the browser scene. Now he’s ready to pick up the fight with IE, FF and Opera.

All about robots.txt

If you want to find out (or know more) about the mysterious robots.txt and web robots then The Web Robots Pages will definitely be of help. The author Martijn Koster has generously written a huge FAQ and also gathered some code examples, thorough information and references.

Sometimes people find they have been indexed by an indexing robot, or that a resource discovery robot has visited part of a site that for some reason shouldn’t be visited by robots.

In recognition of this problem, many Web Robots offer facilities for Web site administrators and content providers to limit what the robot does. This is achieved through two mechanisms:

Speed Demon Photography

Stumbled upon an incredible selection of high speed photography from the “Speed Demon” round in Crestock’s photography contest.

In this final round we’re looking for photos that convey a real sense of speed – be it a person or object perfectly ‘frozen’ in mid-air, or long shutter speeds and motion blur used to exhilarating effect. And remember: it does not have to be traffic-trails or falling water droplets; originality counts too!

Some of these pictures clearly took a lot of effort to create and all of them are very well done. Well worth a look!

Laptop with HD DVD-burner

Toshiba recently announced they will be shipping the ultimate desktop replacement, Qosmio G40, later this month. The specifications are outstanding and should according to rumours include a 17-inch 1920 x 1200 screen, dual 200GB hard drives, T7300P Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, 512MB GeForce 8600M GT graphics, analog/digital TV-tuner, built-in 2 Mega pixel camera and a HD DVD-burner.

Qosmio G40

The high performance good-looking monster could perhaps benefit from a slightly larger screen but that would probably result in an insane asking price which is currently around 3000 euros (about $4000 US).
