From time to time Windows might do things we didn’t expect and the result may be both frustrating and irritating. Why this happens? Well have a look at the hidden menu recently discovered by one of its users.

As you can see it all happens for a reason…

This menu is of course not REALLY there, but sometimes I keep wondering if it is. My last crash happened less than a week ago, but fortunately I’ve created multiple backups (learning from experience) so I really didn’t lose more than the email I had been typing on the last 15 minutes. Nevertheless this kind of error shouldn’t have happened in the first place, as typing a message in Outlook using plain text isn’t that hard on the computer.

Came accross this fantastic substitute for the original windows welcome tune this afternoon. Grab the tune and make the replacement to get a more realistic start, and maybe also a good laugh when you start your working day (given you’re yet another user of this OS that is)…

Over the last few weeks a strange noise has started to worry me when driving. It sounds like the engine is running without any oil, which in turn makes a very unpleasant tone. Very much like a opera singer missing the high (highest) C over and over again. I decided to take my car, a “beautiful” Nissan Serena, to the mechanics.

After less than an hour this nice Spanish guy had the car ready for me again which is unheared of here in Spain, mañana is more like it… Not only was the car back in perfect condition, but he also let me have it back without charging me. Would you believe it?!

I’ve just moved into a new house, a so called fully-furnished townhouse here in Spain. I was happy to find a rather decent sound system in the living room. The owner is probably as “techi” as I am and has cables from the living room up to the bedrooms on the second floor. This allows you to bring the music to most parts of the house.

The speakers are made by Bose, and given their size the sound is surprisingly good. You can almost feel the bass when you turn the sound up a bit, but it’s not even close to my old Dali’s I used to have back in Norway. It might be the Pioneer amp that pulls it down a bit as well, since this is far from powerful.

My old Dali’s were driven by a big NAD power amp which gave you the closest thing to Hi End given its moderate price compared to the insanely priced enthusiast systems. Anyway, life is now good again. You wouldn’t believe how much I missed having a proper sound system. It’s almost funny watching a movie on my tiny 21″ TV with cinema-like sound…

When I can afford it I’ll probably be out looking for a new Hi-Fi to upgrade the one that followed the house, but I can’t see that happening in the next few days to be honest. But the recent upgrade is anyway something I can live with for a while.
